Apple has confirmed that its highly anticipated Siri AI upgrade will not launch on iPhones and iPads in the European Union when iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 arrive later this year. The company says ongoing regulatory issues tied to the EU’s Digital Markets Act (DMA) have forced an indefinite delay, leaving European users waiting even longer for Apple’s next-generation AI assistant.
The announcement follows Apple’s unveiling of Siri AI during WWDC 2026, where the company showcased a completely redesigned assistant powered by Apple Intelligence. The upgraded Siri is designed to offer deeper contextual awareness, enhanced writing assistance, visual intelligence features, and a dedicated app experience for managing conversations and requests.
According to Apple, the European Commission rejected multiple proposals intended to allow Siri AI to launch while maintaining Apple’s privacy and security standards. The company argues that DMA requirements could force it to grant competing AI systems extensive access to user devices, creating potential privacy risks.
Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, said the company remains committed to bringing Siri AI to Europe but currently has no timeline for when that might happen. Apple says it will continue discussions with EU regulators in hopes of finding a solution that satisfies both compliance requirements and user privacy concerns.
The delay affects a wide range of new Apple Intelligence features on iPhone and iPad, including enhanced writing tools, expanded Visual Intelligence capabilities, Siri-powered camera functions, and the new Siri AI application. Developers located in the EU will also be unable to test these features on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27.
While iPhone and iPad users in Europe will miss out at launch, Apple has confirmed that Siri AI will still be available in the EU on macOS 27 and visionOS 27. The company also indicated that regulatory hurdles are preventing a simultaneous rollout in China.
The latest setback marks another chapter in Apple’s ongoing struggle to bring advanced AI features to European customers. Previous Apple Intelligence features were also delayed in the region due to DMA-related concerns, though those eventually arrived after negotiations with regulators. This time, however, Apple has not provided any estimate for when Siri AI could finally reach EU iPhones and iPads.
