Spyro is finally making his long-awaited return. During the Xbox Games Showcase 2026, developer Toys for Bob officially unveiled Spyro: A Realm Beyond, marking the first brand-new Spyro adventure in nearly two decades. The game is currently scheduled to launch in Spring 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.

Developed by the team behind the critically acclaimed Spyro Reignited Trilogy, A Realm Beyond aims to modernize the beloved platforming franchise while staying true to its roots. The reveal trailer showcased a redesigned Spyro and teased expansive environments, colorful worlds, and enhanced dragon abilities.

One of the biggest gameplay changes is the introduction of unrestricted flight. Unlike previous entries, where flying was typically limited to specific levels or power-ups, players will be able to take to the skies freely throughout the adventure. According to Toys for Bob, the new mechanics will allow players to dive, soar, and use Spyro’s fire-breath abilities to interact with the environment and solve puzzles.

Fan-favorite voice actor Tom Kenny is returning to voice the purple dragon, while the studio promises a welcoming experience for both longtime fans and newcomers. Toys for Bob says the game is designed to capture the optimism, humor, and family-friendly charm that helped make the franchise a PlayStation-era classic.

The announcement follows years of speculation and rumors surrounding a new Spyro project, many of which pointed to Toys for Bob as the developer. Those rumors have now been confirmed, with Spyro: A Realm Beyond set to become the first original Spyro title since 2008.

While gameplay details remain limited, the reveal suggests that A Realm Beyond will be the most ambitious evolution of the series to date. More information is expected to be shared in the months ahead as the game approaches its Spring 2027 release window.
