Microsoft Surface Pro Leak Reveals Snapdragon X2 Elite Specs and Expected Launch Date

Hot on the heels of launching its Intel Panther Lake-powered Business editions, Microsoft is gearing up to refresh its consumer lineup. A major new leak has revealed marketing materials for the upcoming 13-inch consumer Microsoft Surface Pro, which will be powered by Qualcomm’s highly anticipated next-generation Snapdragon X2 Elite processor.

Microsoft Surface Pro Leak Reveals Snapdragon X2 Elite Specs and Expected Launch Date

The leak, first published by German tech blog WinFuture (via 9to5Google), gives us an early look at what to expect from Microsoft’s next flagship 2-in-1 tablet, including massive AI processing gains, upgraded efficiency, and a tentative release date.

Next-Gen Snapdragon X2 Elite: A Massive Leap in Performance

The biggest upgrade to the new Surface Pro lies under the hood. While the 2024 model relied on the original Snapdragon X Elite chip, the next-generation Snapdragon X2 Elite shifts to a more efficient 3nm manufacturing process.

According to the leaked marketing materials, users can expect substantial performance and AI enhancements:

  • 3rd-Gen Oryon CPU: Improved processing speeds for demanding multi-tasking workloads.
  • Upgraded Adreno GPU: Delivers a massive 2.3x increase in performance per watt and vastly improved power efficiency over the previous generation.
  • 80 TOPS AI NPU: The Neural Processing Unit (NPU) jumps from 45 TOPS on the first-generation chip to a staggering 80 TOPS of AI processing power, making it one of the most capable Copilot+ PCs on the horizon.

Familiar Design with Better Battery Life

Visually, Microsoft is sticking to its tried-and-true form factor. The leaked images indicate no noticeable changes to the external chassis of the 13-inch device.

The premium OLED touchscreen returns, and the device will support configurations of up to 32GB of RAM and up to 1TB of removable storage.

However, the architecture shift to 3nm yields a welcome boost in longevity. The Snapdragon X2 Elite Surface Pro will reportedly offer up to 15.5 hours of local video playback on a single charge—a notable increase from the 14 hours offered by the current model.

When it comes to aesthetics, consumers will be able to choose between Black, Platinum, and Gold. Notably, the Blue finish from previous generations has reportedly been discontinued.

Pricing and Release Date Expectations

Tech enthusiasts won’t have to wait long to get their hands on the new hardware. WinFuture expects Microsoft to officially announce the Snapdragon X2 Elite Surface Pro on June 16, 2026.

As for pricing, consumers should prepare for a premium cost. Microsoft recently unveiled its ultra-premium Surface Laptop Ultra powered by Nvidia’s ARM-based RTX Spark chip at its Build developer conference, signaling a push toward higher-end, pricier hardware. With global memory prices on the rise and the latest Intel-based Surface for Business starting at $1,949.99, these next-gen Qualcomm-powered models are expected to carry a premium price tag to match their cutting-edge specifications.
