iPhone 4 mod makes logo glow

September 13, 2011 – 12:44 pm

You can be more or less sure that you will be the toast of the crowd once you successfully implement this particular mod for your iPhone 4 – that is, to get the Apple logo at the back glowing. After all, this would by far help you stand out from the rest, even though others decide to spray paint their iPhones in all sorts of zany colors and designs. British iDevice repair service iPatch is the brain behind this mod, where it will let the Apple logo light up whenever the screen does, similar to how the MacBook’s Apple logo lights up when opened.

They definitely aren’t going to let go of this secret, with the director of iPatch saying that it is “a complete secret” (like Coca Cola’s recipe, perhaps?) and “very tricky to replicate. It’s not something that could be done at home without specialist equipment.” Guess budding enthusiasts might want to give this a pass, and hand their smartphone over to iPatch to get the job done. It takes several hours for the entire mod to be completed and work fine, and at least you are able to choose the color of your glowing Apple.

Bear in mind that when you trick out your iPhone 4, it will void its warranty, but you can always reverse the process if you decide a glowing Apple logo is no longer your cup of tea. Folks living in the UK will have to fork out between £50 and £100 to get the job done, and others living overseas can mail their precious handset in for modding.

Ear MIKI concept earphones don’t tangle

July 21, 2011 – 3:17 pm

If you prefer corded earphones instead of Bluetooth headsets when it comes to hands-free kits for your phones, you

probably know what it’s like to get your earphones tangled up with your keys and other objects in your pocket or bag. To deal with this problem, we’ve come up with solutions like wrapping the cords of the headset around something, or placing it in a separate bag – but it’s usually such a hassle to do.

Some Korean designers have come up with a concept design for a pair of earphones that solves these problems while still functioning like a regular headset.  Called the Ear MIKI, you can tell that they’ve obviously been inspired by Mickey Mouse’s head. The Ear MIKI consists of a ring that keeps your ear buds neat when not in use. When you need to use it, all you do is pull the “ears” out and wear them like you normally would. The ring will then hang around your neck to function as a microphone. When you don’t need to use it, just retract the cords and you have a nice little ring that you can even wear around your finger if you wish.

Simple, stylish, and functional – now all they need is to get it into production stage (and possibly change its name so the folks over at Disney won’t have any problems with it). Check out more pictures of it at Yanko Design.
