Motorola Droid RAZR Unboxing (Video)

November 11, 2011 – 3:04 pm

What can you expect to get when you pick up your very own Motorola Droid RAZR? Let’s take a look inside the box!

First off we’ve got a few manuals, a standard microUSB cable, and a very cool USB power adapter. This wort is a small cube with fold-out prongs (to make traveling with it easier). While that’s cool, it also has not one, but two USB ports!

That’s right, folks! You can charge your phone and Bluetooth headset, or two phones, or phone and smart watch, at the same time, using the same power-hungry wall wort. This not only frees up an outlet, it also save on phantom power loads — by half!

Yes, the super-thin Motorola Droid RAZR is in there two, complete with an instructional, albeit temporary, screen protector. We’ll talk more about that in our hardware tour video.

Motorola Facebook phone resurfaces as Motokey Social, destined for Telus? (Update: official product page found)

November 4, 2011 – 8:11 pm

If you thought we’d forgotten all about Motorola’s little Facebook Phone that could, you’d be incorrect. Only known previously as the EX225, it appears the portrait QWERTY may have a final destination and name. According to YS Tech, the device seems set for a collision course with Telus as the Motokey Social, a prepaid feature phone that offers basic access to Gmail, Facebook and Twitter. The leaked specs are right on the money with what we’ve heard already: 2.4-inch touchscreen, 3MP camera and a proprietary platform (read: not Android), which means this could be an inexpensive option to appease the kiddies during the holidays. No official announcement has been made yet, so we don’t have any idea of pricing or availability. Time will tell, as always.

Update: It turns out that Motorola does, in fact, have an official product page up for the Motokey Social.

Motorola PRO+ unboxed on video

November 1, 2011 – 10:30 am

The Motorola PRO+ (or Motorola DROID PRO+) was announced back in August as the successor to the original DROID PRO. And while the first time around we got the DROID Pro but not the rest of the world, it looks like the rest of the world will be getting the PRO+ instead of us. Well, the folks over at technobufffalo.com recently got their hands on one unit and shot an unboxing video for the phone, showing us the goodies that come in the package, and what the phone is like.

The phone isn’t too different from the original DROID PRO, except that it features a more curvy body than its predecessor and it features a higher resolution display. Oh and let’s not forget Android 2.3 Gingerbread that comes with the phone. If you’re keen on finding out more about the phone, check out the video unboxing for yourself:

Motorola Droid 4 emerges, looks a bit QWERTY

October 28, 2011 – 12:09 pm

Coming with 4G LTE?

The Motorola Droid 4 has just broken cover, and by all accounts looks the part for any fans of a QWERTY slider as the new phone is packing a beauty.

Along with the surprisingly clear photos of the Droid 4, courtesy of  Droid Life, there are a myriad of specs which have surfaced -  so al in al we have a pretty good idea of what to expect when the Moto mobile launches.

Along with the illuminated five-row QWERTY comes a 4-inch screen, which should take the form of Super AMOLED Advanced; and a non-removable battery will be powering a possible 8-megapixel camera 1080p video recording.

There also appears to be a Webtop for docking the device with a LapDock for large-screen action, and the whole thing is wrapped up in a familiar Motorola body, similar to that of the Razr. Oh, and it’s also supposed to be running Android 2.3.5, which means it’ll need to be updated if the OS is to sit alongside its high-end specs.

Motorolo MOTOACTV takes on iPod nano

October 19, 2011 – 3:53 pm

Motorola has unveiled its own interpretation of the smartwatch PMP, the MOTOACTV, a 1.6-inch touchscreen Android gadget that packs GPS and up to 4,000 of your songs. Intended to track your fitness in a similar way to Nike+, the MOTOACTV is sweat resistant and includes both an FM radio and an integrated audio coach that tells you how fast you’re going and how far you’ve run.

Meanwhile a companion site, MOTOACTV.com, allows you to plan you route and then monitor your performance over time, setting goals and challenging your friends to beat them. It’s intended to work with Motorola’s SF700 and SF500 wireless Bluetooth headphones, which also include heart-rate monitors to feed info to the MOTOACTV itself.

Battery life is up to five hours of outdoor workouts, up to ten hours of indoor workouts, or nearly two weeks of standby. There’s both Bluetooth 4.0 and ANT+ connectivity, all in something 46 x 46 x 9.6 mm and 35g. An FM radio is also integrated.

Unfortunately, all this wrist-borne fitness doesn’t come cheap. Motorola has two versions of the MOTOACTV in the pipeline, priced at $249 for the 8GB version and $299 for the 16GB version. They’ll both go on sale in the US on November 6, with European availability in Q1 2012.

Motorola intros Elite Sliver and Elite Flip Bluetooth headsets with NFC pairing (video)

October 18, 2011 – 11:25 am

Bluetooth headsets are normally the province of businesspeople so important they can’t spare the energy to hold a phone to their ears or, perhaps, folks who just want to play CIA agent. If you find yourself in either category, Motorola’s newest offerings will put what passes for a smile on your serious businessperson face. The outfit just took the wraps off two Elite series headsets, both equipped with NFC pairing, so one tap ‘twixt phone and earpiece will have you ready to simultaneously drive and talk. You’ll also get integration with My Motospeak, now capable of dictating text messages as well as hearing them read to you, HD-Audio, CrystalTalk noise cancellation and a roaming distance of 300 feet. While the Flip looks the part of your typical earpiece, the Sliver (above left) has decidedly more futuristic digs. Both will be available on October 24th with the Flip costing $100 and the Sliver fetching an extra $30 for its avant-garde design. We’ve got PR after the break along with a demo video — because who doesn’t love watching cartoon characters explain how NFC works?

Motorola LAPDOCK 100 turns select Moto smartphones into laptops

October 13, 2011 – 9:42 am

This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for, the moment when smartphones are beginning to replace laptop computers. The newly unveiled Motorola LAPDOCK 100 connects to select Moto smartphones effectively turning them into laptops.

To be fair, we’ve already seen something similar in the past with Celio REDFLY products, which worked with Windows Mobile devices, providing users with big screen and big keyboard. This time, however, we’re talking about an Android-based solution and we’re hoping other handset manufacturers and/or third-party accessory makers will release more of such “docks” that sing along an array of smartphones.

The Motorola LAPDOCK 100 weighs 2.2lbs (less than 1Kg) and works with the Motorola ATRIX 2, PHOTON 4G, DROID BIONIC by Motorola, and will also be compatible with future Motorola webtop-enabled devices. It will be available online at AT&T on October 17th, and at Verizon Wireless and Sprint later this quarter. Love it!

VIDEO: Motorola teaser for Droid RAZR or Atrix 2?

October 11, 2011 – 11:01 am

Faster, thinner, smarter, stronger

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFlZ4DWAxdA

A teaser video for the next Motorola handset has appeared online, promising an imminent announcement on a product that is “Faster, thinner, smarter, stronger”.

Titled “Motorola’s Next…”, the 35-second clip is a collection of images that suit each tagline including a bullet, rollercoaster and fighter jet for speed; a laser beam and the flat iron building in New York, that sort of thing for thinner; a brain for smarter; and a diamond and the hoover dam for stronger. However, possibly the most interesting addition is the inclusion of the image of a razor.

This leads us to believe that, while we know that Motorola is planning a sequel to its Atrix phone, Atrix 2, it is more likely a teaser for the unveiling of the Motorola Droid RAZR (aka Droid HD or Motorola Spyder), a handset that we’ve heard about before, with the leak of some pictures and specification details at the end of September.

Regardless, no matter which phone it may be, the rapidly increasing heartbeat and lingering date – 18 October 2011 – already have us excited.

You can be sure that we’ll let you know what Motorola has up its sleeve as soon as we find out.

Motorola XOOM 2 to be 9mm thick, shoots 1080p, 1.2GHz OMAP 4 dual-core CPU

September 26, 2011 – 3:01 pm

We first reported on more concrete evidence of the Motorola XOOM 2 yesterday when pictures of the device surfaced on the internet. Now This is my next have come through with the goods by getting some more solid details on the device. It’s said to be 9mm thick; there’s a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, with evidence pointing towards a TI OMAP 4 chip; the rear camera will shoot 1080p, so it will definitely be at least 5MP up to 8MP; faster RAM of the 1GB quantity; and the battery is said to last 11 hours.

But that’s not all. The XOOM 2 is expected to be the first device to ship with Adobe’s upcoming Flash 11 release. Motorola may also have this device sync up wirelessly to applications they’re building in-house. The last interesting element to this device is that it will have an IR Blaster — as odd as the original XOOM having a barometer — which may be used to control home automation appliances. Cool stuff.
