The LG Optimus 2X has found its place in the “Guinness World Record” list for being the first phone with a dual-core processor. Here’s what the official listing says:

In the U.S., LG’s baby is available as the T-Mobile G2x.

Other cool records set recently include Largest Easter Egg, Most Fans on Facebook in 24 Hours (1,571,161), Most cocktails made in one hour by a team, and my personal favorite – Largest serving of barbecued beef (for 20,000 guests). icon wink LG Optimus 2X hits the Guinness World Record list for being the first dual core phone

YouTube and LG announce 3D mobile uploads

February 14, 2011 – 3:04 pm

YouTube tested 3D support a while back, and now the company has announced, together with LG, that it will start accepting mobile uploads in 3D, allowing folks to easily share 3D videos. Of course, considering that LG is involved, the Optimus 3D will be the first to have the option, thanks to its glasses-free display, allowing it to support much of the 3D content that it records. Specific details weren’t mentioned, but since stereoscopic 3D is involved, it should mean that any device with stereoscopic 3D, such as some computer monitors and 3D TVs should support it too. This is a great move for the expansion of 3D since it would allow amateur 3D video to be easily spread and distributed around the globe.

LG G-Slate: A Dual-Core, Honeycomb Tablet With a 3D Display

February 2, 2011 – 1:57 pm

Here’s the first look at LG’s G-Slate tablet, gunning to be the best Android tablet by equipping a dual-core Tegra 2 chipset, 8.9-inch 3D display, 3D camera, and of course, Honeycomb. It also runs on T-Mobile’s 21mbps HSPA+ network.

The 1GHz Tegra 2 chipset enables 720p HD and 3D content on the tablet, and the ability to output 1080p HD and 3D content to TVs and displays. The rear camera is a five-megapixel stereoscopic 3D shooter capable of recording 3D video in 1080p resolution. It’s also worth noting that all 3D content displayed on the G-slate will require glasses, so it’s not like the Nintendo 3DS.

The G-Slate also has a two-megapixel frontside camera for video conferencing, and 32 gigs of storage space. And, as with most tablets and smartphones these days, it also comes equipped with a gyroscope and accelerometer. T-Mobile and LG arenn’t revealing pricing or exact release dates quite yet, but they say the G-Slate will be out this spring. Motorola Xoom, Blackberry Playbook, you might want to watch your backs.

January 14, 2011 – 1:55 pm

EXCLUSIVE: LG confirms Expansys shop listing

LG has confirmed to Pocket-lint that the LG Optimus 2X will be launching “mid to late February”.

The news comes after Expansys listed the new dual-core smartphone on its site with a 21 February release date.

The worlds first dual core smartphone, the LG Optimus 2X comes with two 1GHz processor cores allowing the LG Optimus 2X to record and playback video in full 1080p HD as well as providing smooth and fast web browsing, and application multitasking with virtually no lag. Expansys are listing the phone without contract at £499.99.

“The LG Optimus 2X will be coming mid to end of February”, James Choi, marketing strategy and planning team director of LG Electronics Global told Pocket-lint in a one-to-one interview.

The LG Optimus 2X launched at CES at the beginning of January and looks likely to be the first dual-core phone on the market in the UK.

Although preview models shown at the show were running Google Android 2.2, LG has also confirmed to Pocket-lint that the phone will be getting Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). It is not sure however, whether this will be a retro upgrade once the handset is launched or whether it will be Android 2.3 from the start.

LG Optimus Black: Meet the World’s New Slimmest Phone (For Now)

January 5, 2011 – 4:54 pm

At 9.2mm thick, the Optimus Black from LG is the new world’s thinnest phone, and is pretty light too, at 109g. It’s also got a 4-inch NOVA screen for viewing in direct sunlight, too, and a 2MP forward-facing camera.

Available sometime in the first six months of 2011, the Optimus Black will go on sale running Android 2.2 (Froyo), but can be updated to Gingerbread later. There’s a 2MP forward-facing camera for video calls, plus WiFi Direct for data transfer between phones. We’re awaiting full specs, but check out the press release below—it may answer some questions you have about the phone that managed to just edge out Apple’s 9.3mm fatty.

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 – LG Electronics (LG) announced today it will unveil a new Android smartphone, LG Optimus Black, at the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) from January 6th in Las Vegas. Providing users with a dramatically brighter 4-inch NOVA display in the world’s slimmest 9.2 mm mobile device, LG Optimus Black creates a one-of-a-kind user experience unlike anything before.

Available for the first time in the mobile market, LG Optimus Black’s NOVA display is designed to be the brightest, clearest and most readable among mobile screens with 700 nits of brightness for optimal visibility. LG Optimus Black provides users with an easier and more natural experience when browsing the web, reading emails, or writing documents with higher levels of brightness and pure white tones that deliver true black and white colors for ideal handset viewing. NOVA technology featured on LG Optimus Black also enables users to maintain visibility whether indoors or outdoors under strong sunlight.

In addition to greater luminosity, the NOVA display on LG Optimus Black also radically reduces power consumption by 50 percent during general indoor use compared to a conventional LCD. Similarly, AMOLED consumes twice as much power as NOVA to display a full white screen, the most frequently used color scheme for web browsing. Combined with the 1500 mAh battery of the LG Optimus Black, users will have enough power for their daily needs, even at maximum brightness settings.

Users will never be out of style with the LG Optimus Black’s ultra slim 9.2 mm design. Making a strong visual statement, LG Optimus Black weighs only 109g and offers sleek lines and smooth edges that improve handheld grip. Tapering down to the world’s thinnest smartphone profile of 6.0 mm, LG Optimus Black’s subtle back arch helps to create the illusion of even greater slimness. Unique to the LG Optimus Black, the flush and flawless finish of the front display is achieved by innovatively hiding the Invisible Receiver behind the edges of the phone.

“We are excited to introduce this stylish new Android smartphone and expect the LG Optimus Black to play a key role in the mobile market,” said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “LG Optimus Black reflects our core strengths of advanced technology, in both display and design, offering the world’s brightest screen and the world’s slimmest design in an attractive and smart package.”

The LG Optimus Black also offers a set of smarter features designed for easy and faster access to important apps and content. Optimus UI 2.0 lets users directly access messages, emails and missed calls from the locked screen with just one single finger tap. The Gesture UI offers more intuitive commands, including lifting, shaking and tapping, for taking calls, entering camera mode, or enjoying music. LG Optimus Black also introduces the world’s first Wi-Fi Direct™ for quick and high-quality data transfer between mobile devices and adopts the world’s first 2MP front-facing camera.

All LG Optimus Black features are available on the Android 2.2 Froyo platform with Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade capability. Utilizing the 2MP front-facing camera, LG Optimus Black allows users to utilize video telephony functions of higher quality after upgrading to Android’s Gingerbread.

The LG Optimus Black will be rolled out globally in the first half of 2011.

LG Optimus 2X: first dual-core smartphone launches with Android, 4-inch display, 1080p video recording

December 16, 2010 – 10:46 am

That’s right, it’s official. Needless to say, that LG Star we recently got our paws on is very real, though it won’t go by that name at retail — just as LG’s own release materials had suggested, this monster has picked up the Optimus 2X name as it morphs from a prototype into brutally fast, overpowered reality. At the phone’s heart beats a dual-core Tegra 2 processor running at 1GHz, the first such configuration to be officially announced by any smartphone manufacturer (though we’re expecting others any day now). In case you’re wondering how such power might be used, well, for starters, you’ve got both full 1080p TV-out via HDMI and video capture through an 8 megapixel primary camera paired with a 1.3 megapixel cam up front for face-to-face calling.

A 4-inch WVGA display is along for the ride along with 8GB of on-board storage (expandable with up to 32GB of microSD) and a 1,500mAh battery — no larger than most single-core smartphones these days, so it’ll be interesting to see if the final retail units hold up through a day of typical use. Unfortunately, the Optimus 2X is launching out of the gate with Android 2.2, but LG’s already committing to releasing Gingerbread updates “in due course.” It hits first in LG’s home market of Korea next month, followed by Europe and other Asian locales in the coming weeks; we’re sure you can hardly wait, so why don’t you check out some eye candy from our preview while you pass the time?

LG’s new Android phone, LG-LU3000, is blazing fast

November 30, 2010 – 10:05 am

At the recent KES2010 (Korean equivalent of the CES), LG unveiled a new Android phone, the LG-LU3000 which packs some serious hardware. The LG-LU3000 packs an OMAP 3630 1GHz processor, a 3.8″ WVGA IPS Screen, a 5 megapixel autofocus camera, HDMI output, 1080p video support, and runs on Android 2.2. There’s no word on the pricing or release date, or whether it will even make it to our shores. But someone managed to get their hands on the device and ran a YouTube “speed test”, pitting the phone against a Samsung Galaxy S and an iPhone 4. The LG-LU3000 just blazes past the competition, leaving them in the dust. Watch the video to see for yourself:
