NUU MiniKey Bluetooth keyboard case now available

May 12, 2011 – 11:03 am

Having escaped the shadow of the FCC since it dropped by in February, the NUU MiniKey Bluetooth keyboard case for Apple’s iPhone 4 is now available, delivering better speed and typing accuracy for those who are always on the go, and have yet to get used to a virtual keyboard. Of course, if you are connected to it via Bluetooth, that would mean sapping additional battery power from your iPhone – making it ideal to get a case that has a secondary battery so that you have a backup power supply should the situation arise where you need to make an emergency phone call or send out just one more email.

Heavy iPhone typists will find the NUU MiniKey to be heaven-sent, where it offers the classic tactile feedback whenever your fingers dance over the keys, making it suitable for folks who are mulling over whether to switch to the BlackBerry from the iPhone.

One plus point that we can think of for the NUU MiniKey would be the inclusion of backlit keys, making it a whole lot easier to use even when you are in a dark room. Not only that, additional features include text-editing shortcuts, a long battery life, and an automatic sleep mode. Expect to see this puppy arrive in North America, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxemburg, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom soon.

White iPhone 4 Thicker Than The Black iPhone 4

April 29, 2011 – 11:47 am

The white iPhone 4 officially went on sale today and we had a lovely hands-on time with it this morning. We even went as far as snapping a shot of it next to a Samsung Galaxy S II. The new color on the iPhone 4 certainly makes it look bright and fresh, but more and more folks are noticing that the white color also makes the iPhone look fat.

Apple struggled with the white iPhone 4 production, explaining that the delay was due to the affect of the color on the internal components. The white color filtered light differently from the black, requiring them to devise a way to protect the internal parts from sunlight. Could their solution to the problem be what’s causing the white iPhone 4 to look just a tad thicker than the black one?

The white iPhone 4 appears to be almost 1mm thicker than the black iPhone 4. That doesn’t seem like a huge deal, except when it comes to fitting into certain cases and accessories.

“Just picked up the white iPhone 4 and realized it doesn’t fit into my Incase slider case. It appears that Apple has increased the size of the plastic that borders the glass on both sides by about 1mm,” said one customer. Ryan Cash of Marketcircle felt the same way when he compared his colleague’s new 16GB iPhone 4 in white with his 32GB black version, and offered up several close up comparison photos.

However, Apple has not mentioned anything about the change in thickness and has listed both versions with the exact same specs. Have you picked up a white iPhone 4 and noticed this difference? If so, have you had trouble fitting it into a standard iPhone 4 case?

White iPhone 4 Launching Wednesday, April 27?

April 25, 2011 – 2:45 pm

We already know that the white iPhone 4 will be launching this week in Europe — available from April 28 on T-Mobile Germany — and recent developments indicate that the white Apple smartphone will see a U.S. launch along the same lines, according to a BestBuy inventory screenshot.

The image above shows the AT&T GSM variant of the White iPhone 4 being in stock — and thus probably available — from April 27 and word is that the Verizon version will have the same fate. Units have already arrived at retailers according to reports so everything seems to be on track, finally. With the iPhone 5 most probably landing this September, let us know whether you’ll grab a white iPhone 4 this week. Also, is it possible for Apple to launch the Black and White iPhone 5 simultaneously, like they did with the iPad 2?

Apple now selling Square credit card reader for iPhone, iPad

April 18, 2011 – 11:50 pm

Apple is now selling the Square credit card reader, a product and company founded by Jack Dorsey, who is also now back at Twitter, through its online retail store. If you’re not familiar with Square, it’s basically an attachment that can connect to the iPhone, iPod touch or iPad via the 3.5mm headphone jack, and along with the accompanying iOS app, can take credit card payments.

Apple explains it a bit more on its site:

Square is a revolutionary service that allows you to accept credit cards, using a reader that plugs into your iPod touch (4th generation), iPhone 4, or iPad along with a free easy-to-use app. There’s no need for complicated contracts, monthly fees, or merchant accounts. All you pay is 2.75% per transaction. You can download the free app from the App Store. Square is currently available for use in the U.S.

If you find yourself conducting a lot of sales through Craigslist or similar services, and often deal with cash transactions and you think you can benefit from credit card payments, Square might be worth a look. Also, if you own a small business and find that the charges for a credit card payment system are a little high, or that the variances amongst certain providers seems outrageous, Square charges a flat rate across all transactions.

It’s available via Apple’s online retail store, and will soon be sold in its brick-and-mortar stores, too.

White iPhone 4 appears to be ready to order at Three UK (update: gone!)

April 18, 2011 – 11:27 pm

Looks like somebody pulled the trigger on an order page for the mythical white iPhone 4 a little early over at Three UK. The phone that had previously been listed on the carrier’s site for a long, long time (sans any ability to actually order it) has now sprouted up a page all its own with the magical option to “buy now.” We managed to get all the way through to an order confirmation page, so if it’s a mistake it’s a very thoroughgoing one. Calling up Three’s telephone ordering line and PR personnel brought us no closer to finding out the truth, but this particular order page was discovered via a tweet by a Three affiliate — whose tweets have since gone private — suggesting it was dug up from someone in the know. Our suspicion is that Apple’s finally about ready to dish this phone up to the people and Three has been caught testing out its order page ahead of the inevitable onslaught of white iPhone orders. Hit the source link to see the premature revelation for yourself.

Update: Three finally wised up to the fact nobody else was yet offering the pale phone for sale and has pulled the page. For now.

White iPhone 4 confirmed by Apple

April 15, 2011 – 4:51 pm

No, really it is…

Yesterday it was rumored that the white iPhone 4, due to arrive next month is currently in production. According to the latest report from the Wall Street Journal, Apple has confirmed that the white iPhone 4 will be arriving this spring, which means the wait won’t be too long. With rumors of the iPhone 5 being delayed until the end of the year, the white iPhone 4 might help keep the interest of people until the next generation phone arrives. There’s no telling how well this white iPhone will sell, after all – those who are interested in getting a new iPhone this year, will probably decide to hold out for the next generation iPhone instead. What do you think?

Is Apple Pushing The White iPhone Down The Memory Hole?

April 6, 2011 – 4:43 pm

The plot, as they say, thickens. Apple has removed most visual references to the white iPhone on its US and international sites in a surprisingly wholesale manner, a move that points to more trouble with white iPhone availability world-wide.

Obviously this is all Kremlinology, but as Apple Rumors.it points out, Apple removed all references to the white iPhone in a daring, early morning Apple store raid on various galleries and in a manner that suggests complete disavowal of the device.

As you can see ‘s exclusive image, Apple has removed the reference to the iPhone also 4 White show in the Bumper. This happened in the early hours of the morning and still do not know why. As mentioned previously, you might want to eliminate any reference Apple iPhone 4 White due to a lack of availability.

The white iPhone was to land in stores this spring (right about now) and this swift, decisive removal isn’t very comforting.

White iPhone 4 deleted: Apple ousts troubled smartphone from system

April 6, 2011 – 11:07 am

Ah, the white iPhone; rarer than a unicorn’s pelvis. The rare, pale smartphone is yet to see a commercial release – though Apple has promised it will drop sometime this spring – but according to a new store update it’s looking like the handset has taken one step back, not closer to launch.

After the Apple Store went down briefly overnight, 9to5Mac dispatched their trusty retail insider to quest for changes. All they could find was that the white iPhone SKU has been deleted from the system.

Now, that could mean that Apple is preparing a different version with a new SKU, or it might mean that the company has given up on the white iPhone idea altogether and is simply holding off until the iPhone 5. Previous rumors we’ve heard have suggested that Apple will take a little longer than usual with its fifth-gen smartphone, and that the white variant of the existing model would be used to tide things over – and prolong the relevance of the Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 – until the new handset is ready.

GoPano Micro brings 360-degree video recording to the iPhone 4 (video)

April 6, 2011 – 10:41 am

We’ve seen still photos shot in the round, but wouldn’t it be nice to snag some panoramic moving pictures every once in a while too? Well, the folks at EyeSee360 certainly think so, which is why they’ve given the iPhone 4 some 360-degree video recording capability with the GoPano Micro. Comprised of a plastic case for your handset, a detachable 360-degree lens, and a GoPano app, the system lets iPhone fanboys do a circular pan with the swipe of a finger. That put you in the moviemaking mood? Well, you can’t get your hands on one just yet, but the venture has already reached its $20,000 funding goal, so those willing to invest $50 can head over to Kickstarter to reserve one of the first GoPano Micros off the production line. Before plunking down your hard-earned cash, however, check out all the full-circumference cinematic fun after the break.
