Unlocked HTC EVO 3D now just 249 GBP from ASDA

January 24, 2012 – 10:24 am

Let’s say you live in the UK and want the HTC EVO 3D – you can check out that cool deal with a two-year carrier contract we talked about 10 days ago. Or you may want an unlocked device, sans any commitments toward mobile operators? Good news – now you can get the glasses-free 3D screen-equipped smartphone from the online wing of ASDA, which is selling it for 249 GBP (about $388).

It’s a true bargain, considering the European version of the EVO 3D was announced only 6 months ago. Actually it’s amazing how quickly smartphone prices drop these days, something all of us love.

Aside from the mentioned 4.3-inch 3D display, HTC’s baby also comes with two 5-megapixel cameras on the back (for recording 3D video), front-facing camera (for video calls), HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS, Bluetooth, an array of sensors and a microSD memory card slot.

So what do you say? Like the deal? If so proceed to this page where you’ll get all the details.

Asda Tech Trade-in to help Brits cash in on £billions of unused gadgets

May 16, 2011 – 12:38 pm

Antechs roadshow…

Brits have at least 35 million old mobile phones lurking unused in the back of drawers. They also have 11 million old digital cameras, 9 million redundant PCs, 5.5 million old laptops, just over a million unused satnavs and 12 million outdated games consoles. And Asda wants to convert all of that unwanted technology into cold hard cash.

The UK retailer commissioned a national Omnibus poll which discovered that UK households are hoarding old gadgetry and gizmos worth £billions in trade-in value, so has opened a new Tech Trade-in section of its website, which offers money for old mobile phones, digital cameras, satnavs, MP3 players and handheld games consoles. Also, from June, Asda stores nationwide will join in the fun and the service will additionally accept laptops, PCs and larger consoles.

It is also offering a “Best price paid pledge to beat trade-ins elsewhere”, although that’s only when compared with direct rivals Envirofone, Mazuma, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Boots. You will get better trade-in value on a games console at specialist stores, such as Game.

For example, after a quick check, Pocket-lint has found out that Asda offers £16.01 for an old black Nintendo DSi, whereas Computer Exchange (cex.co.uk) offers £37 cash, £50 exchange for in-store credit.

Asda does, however, accept a whole range of old tech that you wouldn’t be able to flog elsewhere, and you won’t be able to exchange an old satnav for Coco Pops and a kilo of mince at a games store: “We reckon that the average UK home has hundreds of pounds worth of old gadgets that could be traded in for cash,” says Phil Stout, Asda’s electronics service manager. “There are more mobile phones in the UK than people, for example, so there is a lot of cash out there waiting to be released. Our tech trade-in service means customers can now save even more on their gadget purchases at Asda or use the bounty to save on the cost of day-to-day living.”

ASDA Online Exclusive Car Insurance

April 12, 2011 – 12:49 pm

This is really just a rant regarding Asda Online Exclusive Car Insurance. I’m not saying don’t buy from them or that there is anything wrong with the policy, but do be aware that they require all your documentation sending by POST to verify the policy. I personally don’t like the idea of sending my full driver’s licence, counterpart and no-claims certificate through the post.

Most companies I have dealt with ask for the proof of no-claims which can normally be faxed/emailed but ASDA are asking for not only all your documents, but anyone else your have on the policy. What really annoys me, is that I would send the documents via registered mail, yet they will send them back via normal post. Now we are constantly told to be aware of sending documents via post due to the amount of fraud, yet the POLICE and insurance companies still choose to send the documents back via standard post!

Having seen the terms of the ASDA policy once purchased, I decided to exercise my right to cancel. Let’s just say that getting a refund from ASDA ain’t as easy as the sign-up process.

Asda slashes Samsung tablet price

March 24, 2011 – 11:37 am

Discount ‘droid

Will Samsung clear the way for its new, much more svelte 8.9in and 10.1 Galaxy Tabs by selling off the original, 7in model cheap? If it won’t, retailer Asda will.

It is now offering the Android 2.2 Froyo tablet for a mere 300 quid, down, it says, from £437.

Samsung has never made clear the Tab’s base price. Amazon, for instance, says it’s £799 from which the retailer is discounting it to £399, which is the cheapest we’ve seen it outside of eBay.

The entry-level Apple iPad 2 will be priced at £399 when it goes on sale at 5pm tomorrow.

Asda wants exactly £100 less than that.

Tempted? More details on Asda’s website.

Amazon takes on Tesco with new UK grocery site

July 7, 2010 – 8:56 pm

Every little helps!

Amazon has launched a UK grocery web site, taking on the established supermarket giants such as Tesco, Wal-Mart’s Asda, Waitrose’s Ocado and Sainsbury’s.

Not only that, you can buy beer on the site. Perhaps the ultimate in laziness for the home-worker that cannot even be bothered to pop out to the local off-license anymore!

Of course you may well have to wait 8 days for it as the courier will get lost and then you’ll have to pick it up from your local sorting office…

Massive growth in online supermarkets

Amazon launches the beta of its British grocery service this week.

“Find everything you need to stock your kitchen cupboards,” reads the new page on Amazon.co.uk, promising a range of goods from fresh fruit, veg, meat and poultry through to dried goods, booze and lots more.

However, the online retailer will not give users the traditional two-hour time slots for planned deliveries, which may well put many dedicated online supermarket shoppers off the new service.

Online supermarket Ocado recently announced that it hopes to be valued at over £1 billion in the initial public offering later this month, a clear indicator of the massive value of the online grocery market in the UK.

Industry analysts at IGD forecast that the market for online shopping will double in total and be worth a whopping £7.2 billion pounds by 2014, according to Reuters.

In addition to the aforementioned booze, Amazon UK plans to sell over 22,000 products from established brands like Kraft, Pepsi and Procter & Gamble, some of which will be provided by third-party members of Amazon Marketplace.
